NOMINATION CRITERIA
 To Quailfy, artists must meet the following criteria...

 1. Residency
The Nominee must have lived in the Interior of BC ( Including Thompson/Okanagan, Columbia/Kootenay, Cariboo/Central Interior, Similkameen, Boundary, Shuswap, Peace)  regions for six consecutive months in the past year. For groups, 50% of group members must meet residency requirements. Proof of residency may be required.

2.a. Release Requirements (With the exception of People’s Choice and Single Categories)
The nominee must have released a full-length album recording between July 1 2009 – July 1, 2010.  Full-length means that the album is either a minimum of 30 minutes or contains at least five songs. At least 50% of the tracks on the recording must be previously unreleased cuts. Nominees must include proof of the release date, which can include press releases, reviews or proof of delivery to retail.

2.b. Release Requirements (Only Applicable to  People’s Choice and Single Categories for singles not yet included in album/cd format) registered with Socan and released to radio
The nominee must have released a single recording as a paid download to a reputable site (itunes etc.) between July 1 2009 – July 1, 2010. The single must be registered with Socan and released to radio.


3. Registration & Qualification

Nominees are required to provide all information by filling out  the online nomination acceptance and media submission form www.BCIMA.org/nominee  by Aug 22 2010 at midnite. Registration is completed with a $10.00 entrance fee per band/nominee online or by mail to; Shelly Vida C/O Rotary Centre for the Arts 421 Cawston Ave Kelowna BC V1Y 6Z1 .

Mail by Aug 22 2010  eight (8) copies of Original Recording for Judges ( ONLY in these Specific Categories: Album of the Year; CD/DVD Artwork Design of the Year; Music DVD/Video of the Year) to Shelly Vida C/O Rotary Centre for the Arts 421 Cawston Ave Kelowna BC V1Y 6Z1

The original songs and images including video, must be accompanied by agreement to marketing and publishing both online and through radio and tv - all or in part .

 

No album will be selected as a final nominee in the same category two years in a row. As well, an album cannot be submitted in one genre category one year and in a different category the next.

Late or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.

~The Top three Nominees in each category will receive all access passes for the VIP/MEDIA party  Nov 5 2010 @  4PM.
~The Top three Nominees in each category will receive discounted  ($12.50 ea) Reserved Early Seating @ the Awards Nov 5 2010
~The Top three Nominees in each category will be eligible to share their knowledge & join the Music Panels  Saturday Nov 6 2010

~ The Top three Nominees in each category will be permitted to sell merchandise in the lobby of the Kelowna Community Theatre on Nov 5th 2010 provided the merchandise is setup with a seller PROVIDED in the lobby by 4PM Nov 5th with the accompanying count sheet. Please remove merchandise directly after the awards show and settle with Kelowna Community Theatre staff for payment of  15% of gross sales.
 
4. Submission Deadlines
All nomination submissions must be entered on the
www.BCIMA.org/nominee  website:

~ Jun 1 2010 – Aug 22 2010 Nominations have been open to the public- these will count for the People Choice only.

~ Aug 22 2010 (midnite) Artists must complete their finalized registration with following criteria confirmed in order to qualify for the first judging deadline.

~ Aug 22 2010  Accounting will assess  Minimum Number of Submissions to result in Elimination of a Category. There must be a minimum of four submissions for a category to proceed in any year. If there aren't enough submissions for a particular category, the category is skipped for the year and nominees can resubmit their album for the following year.
Accounting will then present Judges with qualified nominees in each category, as well as  reveal the Astral Media People’s Choice Contest Top 6 winners by Aug 22 2010.

5. Jury Selection
Each Award category will be juried by a group of seven jurors, one from each regional district Thompson/Okanagan, Columbia/Kootenay, Cariboo/Central Interior, Similkameen, Boundary, Shuswap, Peace ,  the jurors will be nominated and chosen for their demonstrated knowledge and expertise in their fields and for their impartiality. No BCIMA staff shall be allowed to sit as a juror for the 27 Awards categories, nor will they be allowed to influence the decisions of the juries.
 
6. Judging Procedures

Round #1-JUDGING  to choose the Top 3 in each category between the Aug 22/10- Sept 19/10

The 2010 BCIMA Categories will be judged by a panel of industry & peer experts with considerations on:

50% songwriting, originality & quality of lyrics & music
20% instrumental, vocal, performance & technical ability
20% marketability, professionalism, recording & packaging
10% popular vote

 People’s Choice Award~ The largest number of on-line votes for  BC Interior Artists by Aug 22nd (midnite)  qualify the Top 6 to stand for the Astral Media Station Contest with the winner announced at the BCIMA Show Nov 5 2010. Bands are encouraged to promote this as part of the scoring and judging process


New Artist of the Year~ First CD release must be within July 1 2009- July 1 2010
Aboriginal Recording of the Year~   50% of  members are of Aboriginal or Metis origin
Instrumental Recording of the Year ~A minimum 50% of tracks must be instrumental
Roots/World Recording of the Year~ Ethnically specific traditional music - for example, Cajun or CelticUrban/Dance  Recording of the Year ~ Grounded by the polyrhythmatic tempo & attitude of the streets and urban centres

 
Round #2- JUDGING  to select the final winners in each category between  Sept 20 2010 – Oct 17 2010

A panel of industry experts from the BC Interior will jury the TOP 3 submission in each category with considerations on:

50% songwriting, originality & quality of lyrics & music
20% instrumental, vocal, performance & technical ability
20% marketability, professionalism, recording & packaging

10% popular vote achieved
